Program Objective: Be able to swing a golf club with good form

Equipment: Golf balls, clubs and mats.

Instructional Objective 1: Learning Cues   

    1. Ready Position: Grip, Bend, Extend, Straight   

                  -Feet shoulder width apart

                  -Grip

                  -Bend at the waist

                  -Extend arms down, left arm down the shaft of the club

    2. Set or Preparation Cues: Clubs, Shoulders, Hips Twist Flex   

                   -Club facing target   

                   -Shoulders and hips square

                   -Twist and extend arms

                   -Flex arms at 90 degree angle   

    3. Action Phase: Hands, Twist, Same Plane, Extend   

                     -Bring hands down first

                     -Rotate shoulders down through the ball

                     -Bring the swing back down on the same plane   

                     -Extend your arms through the ball

    4. Completion/Follow Through Cue: Weight, Hips and Shoulders, Hands High

                      -Weight completely on front foot

                      -Hips and Shoulders

                      -Hands High

 

Instructional Objective 2: The students will learn to swing a golf club with good form.

 

Anticipatory Set:

-Hit a couple golf balls show the students what a golf swing looks like

-Tell them why golf is important-That golf can be played until your 65 unlike basketball or football.

-Talk about well known golfers

-Pull out Driver and hit it (if space allows)

 

Activity 1:

-Students will get into personal space and twist upper body. Students will be concentrating on keeping their weight on the inside of the back foot and not swaying the body.

 

Activity 2:

-Everybody will get a club. Remind the students of safety percautions when handling a golf club. They are not weapons, then have everyone get into personal space.

-Go through Ready Position Cues (verbally and visually)

-Have students try the basic ready position

-Have the students explain back to you what a ready position is.

 

Activity 3:

-Go thorugh Backswing Cues.

-Have the students try the backswing.

-Have the students try the ready position with the back swing.

 

Activity 4:

-Go through Downswing Cues

-Start the students in the proper position at the top of the swing and do the downswing

-Have the students put the three cues together.

-Ask the students What the three cues we have gone through are.

 

Activity 5:

-Go through Follow through Cues

-Have the students try the swing

-Practice the swing without a ball putting all the cues together

 

Activity 6:

-Have the students try to hit two golf balls in a row with a good form

 

Closure:

-Have the students repeat back to the teacher all of the cues.

-Have four students show and teach the other students how to perform all the cues

-Tell of ways to practice at home

-Watching the sport
